Born in Oshawa Ontario February, 1935, Harvey was led to the Lord by his mother at the age of 5. At the time his parents had not been Christians for very long. Their home church was Calvary Baptist in Oshawa. At 14 his desire was to attend Prairie Bible Inst High School, where he attended for 4 years. One of those years he was very sick with rheumatic fever and bedridden for several months but was able, with the assistance of a teacher, to complete his studies in good standing. At the end of high school, he took one year to take further Math & Science courses at O’Neill Collegiate and Vocational Institute in Oshawa. At this point he was considering further education in Chemical Engineering.
The Lord had other plans though, and Harvey returned to Prairie Bible Institute for 3 years of Bible training, which included a Spanish course because of plans to be a missionary in South America. In his 3rd year of Bible college he was asked by a professor to mark a very large number of students papers on the Book of Daniel. He became very knowledgeable about that book of the Bible. During his final year at Bible school he completed the forms for serving with Wycliffe Bible Translators in South America. He never received a reply until a year after graduation when he received papers from the Wycliffe representative apologizing for having lost Harvey’s application papers in the lining of his suitcase.
Pastor, Teacher, Member of Parliament, Husband, Father
In 1957 he married Grace Ann Peel and at that time accepted a pastorate with the Christian and Missionary Alliance in St. John, New Brunswick. While living in New Brunswick, Robert Thompson, leader of a political party and a Member of Parliament approached him asking him to let his name stand to be a candidate in a the local riding. This would supplement our income which was minimal at the time. He loved politics and considered it to be, at that time, an extension of witness opportunity. The St. John work included 3 worship services on Sunday, a mid week Bible study, a Sunday morning Radio program called, The Family Altar Hour, as well as a radio program after the evening service called In the Cool of the Evening. The ‘hymns only’ program was well received and a letter was mailed telling him that people on a nearby beach had their radios turned up and were singing along. He and another pastor started Saturday night Youth For Christ meetings.
Other Pastorates and ministries included…
- Lakeview Alliance Church, where a new building was needed.
- At Eden United Brethren Church in Michigan he had church duties as well as a noon hour radio program that commented on religious news of the day.
- Listowel Missionary church was another pastorate in Ontario where he enjoyed a teaching ministry.
- For many years he was Crusade Director for the Campbell-Reese Evangelistic Association arranging crusades for Ken Campbell and Jim Reese. At this time 50% of his time was spent away from home travelling in Canada, U.S. etc.
- At West Indies Missions, one of his jobs, among many others, he worked with a missionary arranging well water for Haitians which was funded by a government program, the Canadian International Development Agency.
Bibles for the Nations, Canada; was a Bible distribution program where Bibles were sent to people whose names where in the phone book. Hundreds of Bibles were sent through this program. - Cambridge Associates was founded solely for assisting churches in completing their applications for Incorporation.
- Many other jobs related to Christian work were done as well.
Out of his earlier interest in the book of Daniel and prophesy, Harvey coauthored and published along with Rev Hank Kanters the book entitled, “End Game”. It deals with the study of end times according to the Word of God.
Landmark Bible School was started in the early l990’s and teaching a full Bible course was completed.During the teaching of a course on prophecy, he suffered a stroke and a few months later went to be with the Lord in February 2005.
He is greatly missed by Grace Ann, Phillip &.Charlene, Dianne, Daryl and Marie, Calvin and Leigh and seven grandchildren.

For the Love of Teaching
For many years Harvey saw the need and had the vision for in-depth Bible Study that would encompass a study of Bible history, and the time in which events happened. He always had a deep concern for end times readiness for believers and those who would in future become believers. He partnered with a local pastor, Rev. Hank Kanters, in studying what the Bible says about last days before the Lord’s coming and the events leading up to that event.
Over many years Harvey and Hank had many Bible Studies together, agreeing and disagreeing where each sequence of events would play out. They made a decision to discuss each prophecy Scripture in detail. Scriptures for the same event received in-depth discussion and notes were made of each one. The result of their prophecy study resulted in the book End Game.
Harvey considered another step. One he always had a deep desire to carry out, that of a Bible School which included combining his many sermon notes and Bible studies that he had taught and preached over many years. With the end times study he had a new reason to carry out his vision.
Bible Research International is an Incorporated charity that had been set up a few years earlier for the purpose of teaching ‘Bible only’ courses in an organized study with notes and could be done by students at minimal cost. It was to be a recognized course in dedicated Bible study.
Waiting on the Lord for His leading and the fulfillment of his vision for a Bible School was now more than ever a ‘have to do’. Where to have it, who would participate, and the money to make it happen. All needed to be a reality. After some praying and waiting…
Harvey and Hank were teaching the End Game message at a local church and a small group of people came to the front of the church and talked with Harvey after the session. At that point a Bible school was born in the hearts of those who talked with him. They too wished to take on this vision and participate in the birth of Landmark Bible Institute. After much prayer an office and rooms for study were found locally. Searching for Truth was the beginning of many long hours of preparation and study.
For the teachers who participated and the students…. there was blessing.
